Bazı konularda yetmiş yaşındaki insanların edinemeyeceği deneyimler biriktirmiştim. Yoksulların, kimsesizlerin, engellilerin sevilmediğini hiçbir zaman unutmayacağım şekilde öğrenmiştim. İnsanların çoğu, ezik birini gördüğünde biraz daha ezmek için adeta birbirleriyle yarışıyordu. İntihar etsem, yokluğumu kimse fark etmeyecekti. Resmi makamlar bile fark etmeyecekti.
Eminim bundan. Hatta biri gelip beni burada öldürse ve cesedimi bir yere gömse, kim arayacaktı beni? Hiç kimse. Böylece o katilden hesap sorulmayacaktı. Şehir çöplüğünün cesetlerle dolu olduğunu çok duymuştum. Organ mafyası öncelikle kimsesizleri hedef alıyormuş. Düşününce ürkütücü geliyordu ama yaşadığım hayata bakılırsa mantıklı bir yanı vardı: Kimsen yoksa, yasalarda sana yabancıdır.

An excerpt from my novel “Bul Beni Anne” (Find Me, Mom):
I was still in my twenties. My youth seemed to have faded before it even began. In some matters, I had accumulated experiences that even seventy-year-olds might never gain. I had learned in a way I would never forget that the poor, the orphaned, and the disabled were unloved. Most people, when they saw someone weak, seemed to compete to oppress them even more.
If I committed suicide, no one would notice my absence. Not even the authorities. I was certain of that. Even if someone came, killed me here, and buried my body somewhere, who would look for me? No one. That murderer would not be held accountable. I had heard that city dumps were full of such corpses. The organ mafia primarily targeted the homeless. It sounded horrifying, but looking at the life I had lived, there was a grim logic: if you have no one, the law is a stranger to you.
